I just got back from a week at the beach and wondered if there’d been any storms that knocked out power. I suppose a stinky fridge might have been a clue, but I’d cleaned out most fridge stuff that would spoil before I left.
So this US Food Safety blog advertorial is pretty timely. There’s a slick little gadget you can put into your freezer to alert you of just such an event called FreezCube.

Basically you freeze it upside down, turn it right side up, and if the power goes out, the liquid in the container will fall to alert you.
This seems pretty cool, especially since it’s reusable. I’m going to order one for my fridge and give it a try. I’m thinking about getting a chest freezer for buying stuff in bulk, so I can imagine if it works the way I expect, it’ll be useful for that too.

Sarah has convinced me of the huge benefits to a chest freezer; go forth and freeze.
Yeah, the fridge I bought for this house seemed huge at the time, but it sure doesn’t take long to fill ;). Hope all is well in my old stomping grounds … I sure don’t miss the heat!
