I recently wound up searching for a copy of American Cookery, whose claim to fame is being the first cookbook published in America by an American.
If you’re into either cooking or history, it’s well worth a read or at least a quick skim (be sure to check out the mystery of the first edition and the preface to the second edition).
One of my favorite recipes from the cookbook? It has to be diet bread:

Given the 9 eggs, pound of sugar, and nearly a pound of flour, I guess the diet aspect comes from having to beat the sugar and eggs for an hour!
Weight Maven is written by Beth Mazur. Beth believes that obesity is more symptom than cause and that the real problem is our modern culture -- especially diet. Beth writes about ancestral health, health policy, & mindfulness. And cats!
