Just a quick post since the day got away from me, but my Mat Lalonde-inspired approach for Lent is over (I celebrated by adding some dairy back in in the form of greek yogurt mixed with chocolate protein powder, cocoa, and cinnamon … yum!).
I had blood work done today and will have those results in two weeks (next appointment at the doc’s). But the official tally on the scales is 22 lbs … the 21 I gained between Xmas and Ash Wednesday plus a spare ;).
I averaged 2.75 lbs loss per week, which was higher than my 2011 average (1.8/wk). Some of that may be related to the diet, but some is clearly to my added mobility; I’m walking quite a bit more than I was last year.
Now it’s about adding things back in and seeing if I notice anything good, bad, or indifferent. My plan is to add dairy (check), rice, and nightshades back over the next week or so. After that, we’ll see!

Good for you! Excellent result. I’ll be interested to see your blood work when you post the results.
Yeah, me too!
Great outcome-both the weight loss and the increased mobility. I’m so pleased for you! I’ve recently cajoled my aching body into walking more, and even if it doesn’t lead to weight loss, it greatly lifts my mood. Hope it works that way for you too.
Thanks Meli! Re walking, yes, I agree with you. I’m starting to believe that walking is an evolutionary prerequisite for health. I’m working up to 10000 steps!
