Quote of the day

Former Big Food marketer Bruce Bradley:

I think one of the main ways the processed food industry is trying to grow and defend their business is by funding self-serving research. The goal of these studies isn’t to uncover “the truth” or to improve public health. Instead, the research is carefully constructed to create sound bites and statistics to help market their products or combat potential regulation. This is one of the primary ways we end up with conflicting studies that confuse consumers on what they should eat or drink.

Harvard-bound for #AHS12!

Woo hoo!! I’m very psyched that it’s now a matter of public record: I’m going to be the volunteer chair for next year’s Ancestral Health Symposium.

I thought the first symposium was amazing, so it’s going to be a challenge to exceed the bar set by last year’s team. But as good as the program was, there are some clear opportunities for improvement (for example, trying to avoid dual-tracking like sessions where possible).

I lived in Boston/Cambridge for nearly 20 years (half of them walking distance to Harvard Square) so I’m also excited to head back to my old stomping grounds.

Wait, there’s more! Next year’s conference is co-sponsored by the Harvard Food Law Society. So I hope/expect that next year’s symposium will have even more sessions on the important topic of food policy.

So mark your calendars for August 9-12! Last year’s symposium sold out and we expect the same for this year’s. I’ll share registration details once they are available.

Be there!!

Quote of the day

Ray Cronise on carbs over at Thermogenex (free; registration required):

I don’t want to get into the Paleolithic debate. What I want everyone to see is that starch IS an important evolutionary part of your fuel system, but at the same time recognize french fries are NOT the starch I am talking about.
