The above image showed up in my Facebook feed today. I was surprised to find out (via the Google) that it’s actually a decade-old ad campaign that was dropped after Mattel filed a cease-and-desist.
Bummer for the campaign, but it’s clear that the spirit of it lives on!

I’ve been thinking the same thing since yesterday when, one of my friends changed her profile picture to Ruby, I thought OMG GENIUS!! did some research and was shocked to see that this is an old campaign for The Body Shop… Too Bad Barbie was intimidated by a “Real” Woman… Ruby will live on, and I think she is getting a fresh new live in the world of social media :)

Do you remember the plus size barbie that they tried introducing over 10 years ago? It was a big flop because no kid wanted it.
